Lead Inspection Law

Properties built prior to 1978 are required by federal law as follows; Sellers must disclose known information on lead-based paint or lead based hazards before selling a house, Real estate contracts must include a specific warning statement about lead-based paint, Buyers have up to 10 days to check for lead, and landlords must disclose known information on lead-based paint and lead-based paint hazards before leases take effect, Leases must include a specific warning statement about lead-based paint.

Also under the State of Marylands Department of the Environment all rental dwelling units built prior to 1978 must be registered with MDE, Landlords must distribute tenant educational material as well as a current copy of an inspection certificate, and meet THE FULL RISK REDUCTION STANDARD at each change of occupancy for both the interior and exterior of the property.

Who Does My Lead Inspections

All work performed to meet a risk reduction standard must be performed by a person/company who
have been trained and/or accredited by MDE.
